Struggles and Triumps Study Guide by Cynthia Simmons

Tell us about your book.  Struggles and Triumphs Study Guide takes stories from the book Struggles and Triumphs: Women in History Who Overcame to build a twelve week Bible study for ladies.

Can you give us a sneak peek?

Historical information from week 5:

Alice paced the length of the kitchen while waiting for the tea kettle to boil. If only she could relax, but she knew she had a tendency to melancholia. Many loved ones had succumbed to death. Tonight’s dream had been a reminder of the first calamity. The bedside vigil, her father’s waning strength, her mother’s scream, all the images of that tragedy.

Would Frittie be next? She rubbed her hand across her brow hoping to dispel the thought.

What inspired this book? Stories from history inspired me during tough times. I wanted to give that encouragement to others.

What has been your most challenging experience writing a book?  I have to work very hard on getting every detail right. In a book that can be overwhelming.

What is your favorite thing to write about, (i.e., forgiveness, rebellion, etc)? I enjoy researching and writing about people who actually lived, especially if they knew Christ.

What do you hope readers will take away from this book?  I hope that readers who use the study guide will be deepened in their faith. My goal in writing the book and study guide is to encourage women today to trust God in hard times. He does know how to use heartache for their good.

What is your favorite color? Purple, although I also like pink and blue.

Do you have a favorite recipe? I like almost any chicken dish but I love to make Chicken Alfredo.

If you could travel back in time when and where would you go? I would go back to the Victorian era in England. Once I started doing historical research, I learned my tastes in colors and fabrics resemble what they used then. During that time they discovered and cultivated orchids, and I’m very fond of them. I have about thirty orchids and use them to decorate my church for special occasions.

What project are you currently working on? I’m completing a historical fiction story about a family owned bank that tried to stay afloat during the Civil War. It’s set in my hometown, Chattanooga, Tennessee.
